Half-bridge driver for N-channel MOSFETs — what it handles and where it fits
The Texas Instruments LM5109AMAX/NOPB is a half-bridge gate driver designed to drive two N-channel MOSFETs in a high-side/low-side configuration. It accepts a supply voltage from 8V to 14V and delivers a peak output current of 1A for both source and sink, with typical rise and fall times of 15 ns. The high-side bootstrap pin is rated to 108 V, setting the maximum DC bus voltage the driver can support. Operating over -40°C to 125°C, it suits industrial motor drives, DC-DC converters, and power supplies where the driver sits near the switching devices on the same PCB.
1 A peak drive — sizing the gate resistor and dead time
With 1 A peak source and sink capability, this driver charges and discharges gate capacitance. The symmetric 15 ns rise and fall times simplify dead-time calculation.
Lifecycle and sourcing — active, no LTB risk
Texas Instruments lists the LM5109AMAX/NOPB as Active. For dual-sourcing, the LM5106MM/NOPB is a functional peer with similar half-bridge drive but synchronous channel type and slightly higher 1.2 A peak current — verify pin compatibility before substituting.
