Wide-supply PWM controller for isolated and non-isolated designs
The Texas Instruments LM5041AMTC/NOPB is a current-mode PWM controller that handles step-up/step-down regulation in half-bridge and push-pull topologies. Its 15V to 90V supply range lets it bias directly from a high-voltage rail — no separate auxiliary converter needed for the controller itself. The part integrates a transistor driver output, synchronous rectification control, and clock synchronization for paralleling multiple converters. Switching frequency is programmable to 200kHz or 600kHz, giving the designer a clear choice: lower frequency for better efficiency and wider dead-time margins, or higher frequency to shrink magnetics and reduce board space. The 600kHz option is particularly useful when the power stage must fit inside a compact 16-TSSOP footprint. Control features include dead-time control, frequency control, and soft start — all adjustable with external passives. The soft-start pin prevents inrush current during startup, which matters when charging output capacitors on a high-voltage bus.
Temperature grade and deployment environment
Rated for -40°C to 125°C junction temperature, this controller suits industrial and automotive auxiliary power supplies that must operate in outdoor enclosures, engine bays, or factory-floor cabinets. The wide junction range covers both cold-crank conditions and self-heating under full load.
Package and mounting
Supplied in a 16-lead TSSOP package (4.40mm body width) for surface-mount assembly. The tube shipping medium is standard for engineering samples and low-volume production; for reel quantities, confirm the tape-and-reel ordering code variant if needed.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
Listed as Active by Texas Instruments with ROHS3 compliance.
