Wide-input isolated converter controller for industrial power rails
The LM5030MM/NOPB is a current-mode PWM controller designed for isolated DC-DC converters using push-pull, half-bridge, or full-bridge topologies. Its 14V to 90V supply range lets it tap directly into a 48V telecom bus or a 72V industrial rail without an intermediate regulator — one less conversion stage in the BOM. Two transistor-driver outputs with a 50% max duty cycle per channel generate the 180°-phase-shifted drive needed for push-pull and half-bridge stages. The 50% ceiling sets the transformer turns ratio for a given output voltage; a 12V output from a 48V input, for example, requires a 1:4 step-down ratio in the power stage. Switching frequency is pin-selectable between 200kHz and 600kHz. The lower frequency suits designs where core loss in the transformer dominates; 600kHz shrinks the magnetics but pushes the gate-drive losses higher — the trade-off is decided by the thermal budget of the 10-MSOP package.
The 105°C ceiling leaves headroom above the 85°C commercial limit for equipment near heat sources. The 10-TFSOP / 10-MSOP footprint occupies roughly 15 mm² on the board — about half the area of a 14-pin SOIC. The supplier device package is 10-VSSOP, which is the same 3×3 mm body with a thinner profile. Thermal dissipation is limited by the small copper area under the package; a 4-layer board with thermal vias under the exposed pad is the standard layout for continuous operation above 70°C. Control features include soft-start and frequency control. Soft-start ramps the duty cycle at power-up to prevent output overshoot and transformer inrush; frequency control lets the designer synchronise the switching noise to a quiet band or spread-spectrum for EMI compliance.
ROHS3 compliant, covering all ten restricted substances including the four phthalates added in EU 2015/863. No exemption declarations are needed for EU or California market entry.
