Class AB stereo amp for battery-powered audio
The Texas Instruments LM4880MX/NOPB is a Class AB stereo audio amplifier from the Boomer® series, delivering 325mW per channel into an 8Ω load. The 8-SOIC package (0.154" body width) is a common footprint for audio codec and amplifier circuits, so a board layout for a standard SOIC-8 op-amp or comparator can often accommodate this part with minor routing changes. The surface-mount body is small enough for space-constrained portable designs but large enough for hand-soldering rework.
What the output power means for your load
The 325mW per channel into 8Ω is the maximum output before clipping at the rated supply voltage. For a 32Ω headphone load, the available power drops to roughly 80mW per channel—still enough to drive most consumer headphones to comfortable listening levels. The shutdown feature pulls the quiescent current to near zero, which extends battery standby time in portable products. Thermal protection prevents the output stage from exceeding its safe junction temperature if the load impedance drops too low or the ambient temperature rises.
