1.1W mono into 8Ω — what that means for your audio stage
Built-in depop circuitry suppresses the turn-on thump that otherwise needs an external mute transistor or RC network. Shutdown pin lets a GPIO or power-management IC pull the amplifier into a low-current state when audio is idle — useful for extending standby time in portable gear. Thermal protection cycles the output if the die exceeds safe junction temperature, so a stalled speaker or shorted output won't permanently damage the part.
Lifecycle and compliance — still in active production
Texas Instruments lists the LM4879ITLX/NOPB as Active with no last-time-buy notice. ROHS3 compliant, so it passes the EU RoHS exemption list without lead in the solder balls. No known PCN or EOL window on this Boomer® line as of the latest TI product bulletin. For BOM freeze or long-life designs, the active status means you can qualify it for production without worrying about a sudden discontinuation.
