Class AB mono amp — 3W into 3Ω, 2V to 5.5V supply
The Texas Instruments LM4871M is a Boomer® series Class AB audio power amplifier delivering 3W into a 3Ω load from a single 2V to 5.5V supply. The 8-SOIC footprint keeps the BOM small, and the shutdown pin lets the system cut quiescent draw when the audio isn't needed. Thermal protection kicks in before the die cooks, which matters in a sealed enclosure or a hot dashboard.
The 3W rating into 3Ω is the headline number, but it's worth checking your actual speaker impedance. Into an 8Ω speaker the output will be lower — plan your SPL targets accordingly. The 2V to 5.5V supply range covers single-cell Li-ion (3.6V nominal) and three-cell alkaline (4.5V fresh), but at 5.5V max you're not running a 12V automotive rail directly; that needs a downstream regulator or a different part.
Active, ROHS3, no LTB looming
The Boomer® family has been around long enough that the fab process is mature; PCNs are rare. If you're qualifying a new design, there's no urgency to dual-source unless your procurement policy demands it.
