Class H topology for battery-powered audio
The LM48580TL/NOPB is a Class H mono audio amplifier from the Boomer® and PowerWise® series, designed to extend battery life in portable devices. Class H architecture modulates the supply rail to the audio signal envelope, reducing quiescent power dissipation compared to a fixed-rail Class AB — the difference matters in a single-cell Li-ion application where every milliwatt of idle current cuts talk/playback time.
Package and board-fit considerations
Housed in a 12-bump DSBGA (2x2.5 mm) — the 0.5 mm pitch and 0.3 mm ball diameter demand a solder-mask-defined pad with a 0.25 mm aperture, and the board stack-up must keep the via-in-pad depth within the paste volume budget. The supplier device package is 12-DSBGA (2x2.5), the same footprint as the standard 12-WFBGA. Differential inputs reject ground noise from the digital baseband or power management IC — a real advantage when the audio codec and the amplifier share a 4-layer board with a noisy buck converter. The shutdown pin pulls the output to high-Z and drops quiescent current below 1 µA; thermal protection folds back the output drive before the die reaches the 150°C junction limit.
