Automotive-grade mono audio amp with I²C volume control
The LM48100QMHE/NOPB is a Class AB mono audio amplifier delivering 1.6W into an 8Ω load from a 3V to 5.5V supply rail — sized for automotive infotainment head units or in-cabin chime generators where a single speaker channel is needed with digital volume management. Qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 2, it operates across -40°C to +105°C ambient, covering the passenger cabin and dashboard temperature profile without derating concerns.
Supply rails and output power for the BOM
Rated 1.6W continuous into 8Ω — this is the maximum output power per channel at the specified load, so the downstream speaker impedance and the supply voltage headroom must match to hit that figure. Supply range 3V to 5.5V means it runs directly from a regulated 3.3V or 5V automotive rail without an extra boost converter; the lower end accommodates battery-backed standby supplies. The 14-HTSSOP package with exposed pad requires a thermal land on the PCB — the pad must be soldered to a copper plane for the 1.6W dissipation to stay within the junction temperature limit.
I²C-controlled feature set for system integration
Built-in I²C interface handles volume control, input multiplexer selection, and shutdown — this saves GPIO pins on the host MCU and allows software-trimmed audio levels across the production run. Depop circuitry suppresses turn-on/turn-off clicks without external muting FETs, and the short-circuit and thermal protection shuts down the output before the package exceeds its safe operating area.
Lifecycle and compliance status
ROHS3 compliant — no exemptions expiring; the part can ship into EU and UKCA markets without restriction.
