Adjustable shunt reference, 1% initial accuracy
The LM431BCMX/NOPB: It provides a 2.495V reference that can be programmed to any output voltage up to 37 V using two external resistors.
Output current and cathode current limits
The minimum cathode current of 1 mA sets the lower bound for the bias resistor selection. The shunt architecture means the LM431BCMX/NOPB regulates by shunting current away from the load — the total current through the device is the sum of the load current and the cathode current, so the bias resistor must be sized to supply at least 1 mA at the minimum input voltage.
The supplier device package is 8-SOIC, matching the JEDEC MS-012 variation for SOIC-8. Surface-mount assembly with the Tape & Reel format allows pick-and-place at high throughput. The Cut Tape option is available for smaller quantities where reeled packaging is not required.
