Output range and current — sizing the feedback divider
The adjustable output from 2.495 V to 37 V means this part replaces fixed-voltage zener diodes across a wide range of rail voltages. The 100 mA output current is high for a shunt reference in a SOT-23 — enough to drive an optocoupler LED plus a bias resistor in a feedback loop, or to pull down a slow logic line. Minimum cathode current is 1 mA; design the bias resistor to keep at least that flowing at the lowest input voltage and highest load.
