Key ratings for the BOM decision
The fixed 1.225V output eliminates the need for external resistor dividers in a shunt configuration, simplifying the BOM. The ±0.5% tolerance and 50 ppm/°C drift together keep the reference voltage within 1% over temperature — adequate for 8- to 12-bit ADC references and comparator thresholds. Maximum cathode current is 65 µA, which sets the lower bound on the series resistor for a given supply rail.
Housed in a SOT-23-3 package, the LM4051CEM3-1.2/NOPB shares the same three-pin footprint as many other shunt references in the LM4051 family, easing layout reuse.
