Current ratings and bias requirements

The shunt reference sinks up to 12 mA of output current — enough to bias a handful of op-amp inputs or a low-power ADC reference input. Below 65 µA the reference may drop out of regulation; above 12 mA the device dissipates excess power as heat. The SOT-23-3 package has limited thermal mass.
