Active precision shunt reference in SOT-23-3
The LM4050BEM3X-10/NOPB: The SOT-23-3 package keeps the footprint small — three leads, clear pin 1 orientation, easy to hand-solder or reflow. The shunt topology means it behaves like a Zener diode: it sinks current from a series resistor to regulate the output, so no external pass transistor is needed.
The 15 mA output current capability covers most ADC reference inputs and biasing circuits. The 110 µA minimum cathode current means the series resistor must be sized to keep at least that much flowing through the reference at all times — otherwise it drops out of regulation. The ±0.2% tolerance is the initial accuracy at 25°C — the actual error at temperature extremes is the sum of tolerance and temperature drift. For a 10V reference, that is ±20 mV initial plus up to ±6.25 mV drift across the full range.
Package and rework reality
The three pads are spaced 0.95 mm pitch — easy to tack with a fine iron or hot air. The tab is the cathode (output), so verify the pad layout matches the datasheet footprint before laying out the board. RoHS3 compliant means no lead in the solder finish — standard 260°C peak reflow profile applies. No moisture sensitivity level is stated, but SOT-23-3 parts typically handle MSL 1 or 2; a bake before rework is rarely needed unless the part has been sitting in high humidity.
