Precision shunt reference for BOM-fit decisions
Its ±0.2% tolerance sits between the tighter A-grade (0.1%) and the looser C-grade (0.5%) — the B-grade is the sweet spot for a 12-bit ADC reference where you need better than 0.5% but don't want to pay for 0.1%.
Output range and cathode current — sizing the bias resistor
The shunt draws a cathode current of 80 µA typical — that's the minimum current you need to keep the reference in regulation. The maximum output current is 12 mA, so the series resistor from the supply rail must be sized to deliver at least 80 µA to the cathode while keeping the total load plus reference current under 12 mA.
Temperature drift and noise floor
The temperature coefficient is 100 ppm/°C, which means a 50°C swing shifts the output by about 0.5% — fine for a 10-bit ADC, marginal for a 12-bit without calibration. Noise from 10 Hz to 10 kHz is 20 µVrms, low enough that it won't dominate the LSB of a 12-bit converter at a 2.5 V reference.
