Initial tolerance is ±0.2 %, which holds the reference uncertainty to 2.5 mV at the 1.233 V minimum output — tight enough for a 12-bit ADC's 1 LSB budget without a software calibration step. The shunt topology sinks 80 µA minimum cathode current and delivers up to 12 mA to the load, so the designer sizes the bias resistor for the sum of load current plus cathode current across the full supply range.
