Adjustable shunt reference for precision biasing
It delivers a nominal output adjustable from 1.233 V up to 10 V, set by two external resistors. The ±0.2% initial tolerance and 100 ppm/°C temperature coefficient make it a fit for precision ADC/DAC reference biasing, comparator thresholds, and power-supply monitoring in industrial control, instrumentation, and telecom equipment where a low-cost shunt topology is preferred over a series reference.
Output range and resistor sizing
Because it is a shunt reference, the LM4041BIDBZR behaves like a Zener diode: it requires an external series resistor from the supply to the cathode to set the bias current. The output voltage is programmed with a resistor divider from the cathode to the adjust pin. With a cathode current floor of 80 µA and a maximum output current of 12 mA, the designer sizes the series resistor to keep the total current (load plus reference) within that window across the input voltage range. The 20 µVrms noise over 10 Hz to 10 kHz is low enough for a 12-bit system without additional filtering in most cases.
Active status, no obsolescence concern
It is also ROHS3 Compliant, so it passes EU material restrictions without an exemption expiry.
