2.048 V shunt reference in SOT-23-3
The LM4040EEM3X-2.0 is a precision shunt voltage reference from Texas Instruments that delivers a fixed 2.048 V output with ±2% initial accuracy. It uses a shunt (two-terminal) topology, meaning it regulates by shunting current through the cathode to ground — the load and the bias resistor share the same node. The 73 µA minimum cathode current sets the lower bound for the bias resistor calculation; below that the reference drops out of regulation. Output current is rated to 15 mA.
The temperature coefficient is 150 ppm/°C, which translates to roughly 0.3 mV drift over the full range — acceptable for 8-bit or low-end 12-bit references, but not a match for a 16-bit system without calibration. The SOT-23-3 package (TO-236, SC-59) is a standard three-lead footprint shared across the LM4040 family, so board layout transfers directly if you swap to a different voltage option within the series.
