4.096 V shunt reference — TO-92-3, ±0.1%
The Texas Instruments LM4040AIZ-4.1/NOPB is a precision shunt voltage reference delivering a fixed 4.096 V output with ±0.1% initial tolerance. It is designed for applications requiring a stable voltage reference over temperature and load — ADC references, comparator thresholds, power-supply monitoring, and sensor excitation. The shunt topology means it behaves like a two-terminal Zener; no external pass transistor, just a series resistor to set the bias current.
The ±0.1% tolerance at 25 °C gives a worst-case output spread of about 4.092 V to 4.100 V — tight enough for most 12-bit ADC references without trimming. Noise is specified at 80 µVrms over a 10 Hz to 10 kHz bandwidth — low enough that it does not limit 12-bit resolution at a 4.096 V full scale (1 LSB ≈ 1 mV).
Through-hole TO-92-3 — board fit and assembly
The TO-92-3 package (TO-226AA) is a three-lead through-hole format. The bulk shipping medium means parts are loose in a bag, not taped — fine for prototype builds and rework but slower for automated insertion. The cathode is the case tab; the anode and reference terminals follow the standard TO-92 pinout for the LM4040 family.
