Stellaris ARM Cortex-M3 with Ethernet and USB OTG — what this part brings to a BOM
The LM3S9L97-IQC80-C3 is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 MCU from the Stellaris 9000 series, clocked at 80 MHz with 128 KB of Flash and 48 KB of SRAM. It includes Ethernet MAC+PHY, USB OTG, CAN, LIN, I²C, SPI, SSI, and a quadrature encoder interface. The 60 general-purpose I/O are mapped across the 100-LQFP package, with the A/D converter block providing 16 channels at 10-bit resolution.
Industrial temperature range and peripheral integration
Supply voltage range is 1.235 V to 1.365 V for the core rail; I/O bank runs separately. Brown-out detect and POR blocks eliminate the need for an external supervisor on the core rail. The Ethernet PHY is on-die, which saves a separate PHY chip and its associated magnetics routing — but the 100-LQFP package still needs careful layout for the differential pairs. The USB OTG port can act as host or device, useful for field firmware updates via USB stick or direct connection to a laptop.
