Active Cortex-M3 with 50 MHz and 64 KB Flash
The LM3S801-IGZ50-C2: It packs 64 KB of Flash and 8 KB of SRAM — enough for a modest control loop with a small data buffer, say a motor controller logging position history or a sensor hub aggregating readings over a shift. The 50 MHz Cortex-M3 core delivers roughly 1.25 DMIPS/MHz, so you are looking at about 62.5 DMIPS of integer throughput. That is enough for real-time PID loops, basic fieldbus protocol stacks, or a small RTOS tick without breaking a sweat.
On the communication side, this MCU brings I²C, SPI, SSI, UART/USART, QEI, and Microwire — a solid mix for talking to sensors, displays, encoders, and serial peripherals. The QEI (quadrature encoder interface) is a nice touch for motor-feedback applications; it decodes position and velocity directly in hardware, offloading the CPU. General-purpose I/O counts 36 pins, which is decent for a 48-pin package. On-chip peripherals include brown-out detect, POR, PWM, and a watchdog timer — the usual safety net for unattended or industrial gear. The internal oscillator saves an external crystal for less timing-critical designs. Supply voltage spans 3V to 3.6V, so a single 3.3V rail does the job.
