80 MHz Cortex-M3 with Ethernet — industrial control sweet spot
The Texas Instruments LM3S6G65-IBZ80-A2 is a Stellaris ARM Cortex-M3S 6000 series microcontroller built around a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 core running at 80 MHz. The 16-channel 12-bit ADC handles multiplexed sensor acquisition, while the Ethernet MAC plus UART, I²C, SPI, SSI, and IrDA interfaces cover both wired networking and local serial bus integration.
Industrial temperature rating and peripheral set
The 46 general-purpose I/O lines, combined with the PWM, QEI, and watchdog timer peripherals, support motor-drive feedback loops and encoder-based position sensing. Brown-out detection and POR are integrated, reducing external supervisor IC count on the BOM.
108-ball BGA — footprint and routing notes
The 108-LFBGA package (10x10 mm body) requires a multilayer PCB for signal escape and a ground plane under the ball field.
