The part integrates a 10/100 Ethernet MAC controller alongside a rich serial interface set: UART/USART, SPI, SSI, I²C, IrDA, Microwire, and QEI. The 43 general-purpose I/O lines are brought out on a 100-pin LQFP package (14x14 mm body).
The Stellaris family was acquired by TI from Luminary Micro and later phased out in favour of the Tiva-C and Hercules lines. There is no direct pin-compatible replacement from TI — the Tiva TM4C series uses a different pinout and 3.3 V supply.
The 50 MHz core speed is the ceiling for instruction throughput — at 1.25 DMIPS/MHz the Cortex-M3 delivers about 62.5 DMIPS. That is adequate for a single Ethernet packet-processing loop with a modest control algorithm, but not for heavy DSP or video. The 2.25 V–2.75 V supply means the I/O levels are 2.5 V nominal — interfacing to 3.3 V peripherals requires level translation or careful selection of 2.5 V-tolerant parts. The 100-LQFP package is a fine-pitch (0.5 mm) surface-mount footprint; rework is possible with hot air but requires a steady hand and a good stencil for production.
