At 50 MHz the Cortex-M3 pipeline runs with zero-wait-state Flash access for most instruction fetches, but the PLL configuration requires setting one wait state before raising the core clock above the Flash's zero-wait ceiling. The QEI peripheral handles quadrature encoder inputs directly — useful for closed-loop motor position feedback without bit-banging.
