64 KB flash / 24 KB RAM — memory budget matters
The LM3S5P31-IQC80-C3T: 64 KB of on-chip flash and 24 KB of SRAM. For a typical motor-drive comms stack (CANopen + UART bootloader) plus a 10 kHz current loop, the firmware footprint lands around 40–48 KB — leaving headroom for a modest RTOS kernel and a few data logs. The 24 KB RAM is enough for a double-buffered ADC buffer of 256 samples per channel on all 16 channels, with space left for the stack.
Peripheral set — CAN, USB, and 16-channel ADC
Connectivity includes CANbus for industrial fieldbus, full-speed USB (device/host/OTG), multiple UART/USART, SPI, I²C, and SSI for serial sensor interfaces. The 16-channel 10-bit ADC samples at up to 1 MSPS — sufficient for reading thermocouple or pressure-transducer outputs in a machine-monitoring node. On-chip brown-out detect, POR, and a watchdog timer let the part run unattended in an enclosure without an external supervisor IC.
Obsolete — sourcing reality check
Texas Instruments lists this part as obsolete. The 100-LQFP (14x14 mm) footprint is common across the Stellaris family, but no pin-compatible direct replacement has been announced.
