NRND — plan the migration now
The LM3S5632-IQR50-A0T carries a Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND) lifecycle status. This is not an immediate discontinuation, but TI has flagged it for eventual phase-out. Any new design-in should target a pin-compatible successor within the Stellaris family or a current-production Cortex-M3 from TI's portfolio to avoid a future last-time-buy crunch.
Peripheral set and on-chip resources
On-chip data converters include a 6-channel 10-bit ADC, adequate for reading potentiometers, current-sense resistors, or thermistor dividers in a control loop. DMA offloads the Cortex-M3 for memory-to-peripheral transfers without stalling the core.
Housed in a 64-LQFP package with a 10x10 mm body, the LM3S5632-IQR50-A0T uses a standard 0.5 mm pitch QFP footprint. This is a hand-solderable, inspectable package — no X-ray needed for rework. The 33 I/O lines are accessible on the peripheral pins, leaving room for a 4-layer board with a dedicated 2.5 V plane.
