25 MHz Cortex-M3 with 16 KB Flash — what it fits
It is built for cost-sensitive control applications — think sensor hubs, motor-control interfaces, or simple human-machine interfaces — where the 25 MHz core handles a modest control loop and the 16 KB Flash holds a straightforward firmware image without a real-time OS. The 28 general-purpose I/Os and the I²C, SPI, UART/USART, Microwire, and SSI serial interfaces give it enough connectivity to talk to a few peripherals over a shared bus.
Industrial temperature range — 105°C matters
That extra headroom matters if the board lives near a motor drive, inside an outdoor telecom enclosure, or anywhere the junction temperature can climb under load.
Package and thermal — the exposed pad
Without that via stitch, the junction temperature rises faster than the 105°C ambient rating suggests. The pad must be soldered — not just glued — to the PCB copper for both thermal and electrical ground connection.
Listed as active in production. The base product number LM3S328 covers the whole family, so if a future spin needs more memory or a different package, the migration path stays within the same Stellaris 300 series.
