The LM3S2918-EQC50-A2T is officially obsolete per the manufacturer. There is no manufacturer-declared direct replacement; any substitute must be validated for pin-compatibility and firmware porting.
Housed in a 100-pin LQFP with a 14x14 mm body, the part uses a standard 0.5 mm pitch. The exposed pad (if present on this variant) should be stitched to the ground plane with thermal vias to keep junction temperature within limits during sustained operation at the upper end of the temperature range.
The 50 MHz Cortex-M3 core delivers roughly 1.25 DMIPS/MHz, or about 62.5 DMIPS. That's enough for real-time control loops, CAN message handling at 1 Mbps, and moderate data processing. The flash wait state must be configured correctly when running above a certain clock speed — the datasheet will specify the required wait state for 50 MHz operation. The internal oscillator is adequate for many applications, but if you need tighter timing accuracy, an external crystal can be connected to the dedicated oscillator pins.
