25 MHz core speed — enough for CAN-bridge duty
The 25 MHz ARM Cortex-M3 core delivers around 1.25 DMIPS/MHz, which translates to about 31 DMIPS. That is sufficient for a CANopen node handling a few hundred PDOs per second, a UART-to-CAN gateway, or a simple PID loop for a brushed DC motor. It will not run a TCP/IP stack with heavy encryption, but for deterministic field-level control the speed is well matched to the 64 KB Flash budget.
Memory sizing: 64 KB Flash, 16 KB SRAM
The 64 KB Flash (64K x 8) and 16 KB SRAM (16K x 8) define the firmware envelope. A typical CANopen bootloader plus application stack fits in about 32 KB, leaving headroom for a calibration table or a second protocol. The 16 KB SRAM is tight for a large frame buffer or a multi-channel data logger, but adequate for a command-response protocol with a handful of 8-byte CAN messages in a double-buffer scheme.
