50 MHz Cortex-M3 with 128 KB flash — what it means for the BOM
The LM3S1J16-IQR50-C3: The 50 MHz core delivers roughly 62.5 MIPS (1.25 DMIPS/MHz), enough for a real-time control loop with a sensor readback and a communication stack running concurrently. The 20 KB SRAM leaves room for a few kilobytes of stack and a double-buffered data array after the RTOS kernel overhead.
Industrial temperature and peripheral set
On-chip peripherals include an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, PWM, DMA, and watchdog timer — enough to close a motor-control loop or read multiple analog sensors without external components. The connectivity block covers I²C, SPI, UART, LIN, IrDA, and SSI, so it can talk to a fieldbus bridge, a serial EEPROM, and an actuator driver on the same board. 33 general-purpose I/O pins in the 64-LQFP package leave room for a parallel LCD interface or a keypad matrix alongside the serial buses. The 10x10 mm body fits a standard 4-layer PCB layout with 0.5 mm pitch.
Texas Instruments has marked the LM3S1J16-IQR50-C3 as obsolete. For a BOM line that already carries this part, the available stock is held in independent surplus and excess channels.
