The ARM Cortex-M3 core runs at 80 MHz, delivering the throughput needed for real-time control loops and protocol handling. On-chip program memory is 384 KB of Flash, with 48 KB of SRAM — enough to hold a moderate application stack plus a real-time operating system footprint without external memory. The 32-bit single-core architecture and the internal oscillator simplify the BOM — no external crystal is required for the core clock, though the connectivity peripherals (EBI/EMI, I²C, SPI, UART, etc.) may still need a precision reference for certain baud rates.
Housed in a 100-LQFP package with a 14x14 mm body, the LM3S1F11-IQC80-A2T requires a 4-layer PCB for reliable fan-out of the 0.50 mm pitch leads. The 67 I/O lines include an 8-channel 12-bit ADC for analog sensor inputs.
