50 MHz Cortex-M3 with 256 KB flash — what it buys the design
The LM3S1937-IBZ50-A2T is a Stellaris ARM Cortex-M3S 1000 series MCU running at 50 MHz — enough throughput for real-time control loops, protocol stacks (I²C, SPI, UART, IrDA, Microwire, SSI), and sensor fusion without an external processor. On-chip memory: 256 KB flash for code and bootloader, plus 64 KB SRAM. 56 general-purpose I/O lines give enough headroom for a keypad, display interface, and a handful of sensor inputs without a port expander.
That means it is still available for existing BOM lines, but TI will not support new design-ins — the window for last-time-buy (LTB) orders may open at any time. For a production run already using this MCU, the NRND status means you should evaluate a pin-compatible migration path now. The Stellaris family includes siblings with similar peripheral sets — confirm the exact package and memory match before committing a board spin.
