The LM3S1816-IQR50-C3: It carries 256 KB of on-chip flash and 32 KB of SRAM, giving the firmware stack room for a real-time OS, the application logic, and a communication buffer pool. The 50 MHz core speed sets the throughput ceiling for interrupt latency and peripheral bandwidth — a control loop sampling sensors at 10 kHz and updating a PWM output has roughly 5,000 core cycles per iteration before the next sample arrives.

Rated for -40 to 85 °C ambient, the device suits factory-floor controllers, outdoor telemetry gateways, and engine-adjacent enclosures where the board sees thermal cycling without active cooling. On-chip peripherals include an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, PWM outputs, DMA for memory-to-peripheral transfers, and a watchdog timer — enough supervisory and signal-conditioning blocks to run a motor-drive or sensor-fusion node without external glue logic.
