Core and memory — what 50 MHz and 96 KB Flash buy you
The LM3S1332-IQC50-A2T runs a single-core ARM Cortex-M3 at 50 MHz — enough throughput for motor-control loops, Modbus RTU packet handling, or sensor fusion at a few kHz update rate. The 96 KB on-chip Flash holds the application firmware and bootloader; 16 KB SRAM leaves room for a few 1 KB DMA buffers and a small RTOS heap.
I/O and peripherals — 57 pins and a 10-bit ADC
57 general-purpose I/O lines in a 100-LQFP (14x14 mm) package — enough to drive a parallel LCD, read a bank of limit switches, and talk to an external SPI ADC or DAC without bit-banging. The three 10-bit ADC channels sample analog sensors at up to 1 Msps; the UART, SPI, SSI, Microwire, and IrDA interfaces cover RS-485, CAN bridge, or wireless module links.
Supply and temperature — 2.25 V to 2.75 V at -40 to 85°C
The narrow 2.25 V to 2.75 V supply range means the MCU needs a regulated rail — no direct connect to a 3.3 V bus without a series regulator. The -40 to 85°C industrial temperature grade suits factory-floor enclosures and outdoor sensor pods that see seasonal swings.
Lifecycle reality — NRND, sourced through independent channels
Texas Instruments lists the LM3S1332-IQC50-A2T as NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs). It is not for a fresh BOM line — but for sustaining an existing product, it remains available through independent distribution.
