50 MHz Cortex-M3 with 64 KB Flash — what the memory and speed mean for the BOM
This places it in the mid-range tier of the Cortex-M3 portfolio — enough throughput for real-time control loops, protocol stacks (UART, SPI, I2C, IrDA, Microwire, SSI), and moderate data buffering, but not the high-end parts with 256 KB+ Flash or Ethernet MAC. The 43 general-purpose I/O lines in a 100-LQFP package give board-area efficiency for mixed-signal designs that need a handful of analog inputs (4-channel 10-bit ADC) alongside digital peripherals.
This part needs a regulated 2.5 V supply — it cannot run from a 3.3 V bus without a series regulator, nor from a 1.8 V rail without a boost. Factor in a low-dropout regulator (LDO) or a DC-DC converter set to 2.5 V when planning the power tree.
The Stellaris family has broad distribution support, and the active status means standard lead times apply through authorized channels.
