The Texas Instruments LM393MX/NOPB is a general-purpose dual comparator in an 8-SOIC package. The 700ns maximum propagation delay sets the response ceiling for threshold detection and zero-crossing circuits. For applications that need faster edge capture, a comparator with sub-100ns delay would be a different tier.

Output flexibility and quiescent budget

The open-collector output stage interfaces with CMOS, TTL, DTL, ECL, and MOS logic families without level-shifting. Maximum quiescent current is 2.5mA per device, which keeps the thermal footprint low in a densely populated board. The input bias current maxes at 0.25µA at 5V, so the comparator does not load high-impedance sources like pH probes or thermistor dividers.

It is not qualified for automotive under-hood or outdoor telecom enclosures where the ambient can drop below freezing.
