325 mW into 8 Ω — the headline output rating
The LM386M-1/NOPB is a Class AB audio amplifier delivering 325 mW into an 8 Ω load from a single channel. That output level is sized for line-level audio drivers, headphone amplifiers, and small-signal speaker outputs in consumer and portable equipment — not for a 10 W public-address stage. The 4 V to 12 V supply range lets it run from a single Li-ion cell (nominal 3.7 V, boosted) or a standard 9 V battery, which is the original design target for the LM386 family.
If your BOM calls for an LM386 in an industrial cabinet or an outdoor enclosure, you need the LM386N-1 in the DIP package with the same temperature grade — or the LM386M-1/NOPB stays within its rated envelope only if the ambient stays above freezing and below 70°C.
