1.235 V shunt reference — what the tolerance band means
The LM385M3-1.2 is a fixed 1.235 V shunt voltage reference in a SOT-23-3 package. The output voltage tolerance spans -2.43% to +2.02%, which translates to a worst-case output window of roughly 1.205 V to 1.260 V — tight enough for a 12-bit ADC reference in a commercial-temperature system, but not a precision metrology-grade rail.
New designs should target a pin-compatible shunt reference in the same SOT-23-3 footprint.
Cathode current and output drive
Minimum cathode current is 10 µA, which sets the lowest bias current the shunt needs to regulate. The low 10 µA floor makes this reference usable in battery-powered circuits where every microamp counts.
Housed in a SOT-23-3 package (also listed as TO-236-3 / SC-59 / SOT-23-3), this is a standard three-pin shunt reference footprint. It is not specified for industrial or automotive environments.
