Adjustable shunt reference — 1.24 V to 5.3 V
The LM385M is a shunt-type voltage reference with an adjustable output from 1.24 V to 5.3 V, set by two external resistors. The ±2% initial tolerance and 150 ppm/°C temperature coefficient are adequate for general-purpose biasing and low-to-mid accuracy ADC references. The 50 µVrms noise (10 Hz to 10 kHz) is clean enough for 12-bit systems if the bandwidth is limited.
Output drive and cathode current
The shunt can sink up to 20 mA, which covers most reference loads — op-amp bias, comparator thresholds, or a small pull-up.
Sourcing for production and repair
Because this part is NRND, standard distribution stock may thin out. If you are stocking spares for existing boards, this is the right part. For new designs, look at the LM385 family in an active package variant.
