Three-rail PMIC in a 12-bump DSBGA
The Texas Instruments LM3686TLE-AADW/NOPB is a triple-output power management IC that integrates one synchronous step-down (buck) converter and two low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs) in a single 12-bump DSBGA package. The buck output delivers 1.8 V at 600 mA, while the two LDOs provide 1.2 V at 350 mA and 2.8 V at 300 mA respectively — a rail set that maps directly to the core, I/O, and analog supply domains of many application processors and wireless SoCs.
3 MHz switching shrinks the passive footprint
The buck converter switches at a fixed 3 MHz, which lets the designer use small-value inductors and ceramic output capacitors — typically 1 µH and 4.7 µF — saving board area in space-constrained handheld or IoT designs. There is no integrated power sequencer or supervisor on-chip; if the application requires a controlled power-up sequence or reset generation, those functions must be handled externally or by the downstream processor. The 12-bump DSBGA (0.4 mm pitch typical) demands a controlled solder-paste stencil and reflow profile — the board house must be qualified for wafer-level chip-scale packages.
