Transfer function and error budget
The LM35DZ/LFT4 outputs 10 mV/°C with a linear transfer function — no external scaling resistors or linearization lookup table needed. At 25°C the output is 250 mV; at 100°C it is 1.0 V. Accuracy is ±1.5°C at 25°C, specified at the test condition. This is the uncalibrated error — the sensor can be trimmed to tighter tolerance if the application requires it, but for most enclosure-monitoring and ambient-temperature tasks the raw ±1.5°C is acceptable without a calibration step. The 4V to 30V supply range means the sensor runs on a common 5V or 24V industrial rail without a separate regulator. Quiescent current is typically 60 µA, so self-heating is under 0.1°C in still air.
Through-hole TO-92-3 package (TO-226-3 outline) — the three leads are spaced at 0.100-inch pitch, compatible with standard 0.100-inch header footprints or wave-solder through-hole pads. The flat face is the front; the leads are Emitter (GND), Output, and V+ when viewed with the flat side facing you. Supplied in a Box — not tape-and-reel, so pick-and-place machines need a tube feeder or manual placement. For high-volume reflow, the surface-mount LM35 variants (SOIC-8, SOT-23) are the tape-compatible alternative.
Operating range and sourcing posture
Rated for 0°C to 100°C ambient — this covers most HVAC, power-supply thermal monitoring, and enclosure-temperature sensing. The sensor measures its own die temperature, so it must be in thermal contact with the target surface or air stream.
