Boost regulator with I²C dimming for camera flash
The LM3559TLX/NOPB is a DC-DC boost regulator from Texas Instruments, purpose-built for driving camera flash LEDs. It integrates the switching FET and uses a 2 MHz step-up topology to deliver up to 900 mA per channel across two outputs, with the output voltage regulated to 5 V. Dimming is handled over an I²C interface, which sets the flash current and timing digitally — no external PWM generator needed.
Housed in a 16-bump DSBGA (0.4 mm pitch, wafer-level chip-scale package), the LM3559TLX/NOPB measures roughly 2.0 × 2.0 mm. The 16-DSBGA footprint demands a controlled board stack-up — the small bump pitch and exposed die require a solder-mask-defined pad and a stencil aperture matched to the bump diameter for consistent reflow. The boost inductor and output capacitor sit close to the package to keep the 2 MHz switching loop tight; the datasheet layout recommendation places the input cap within 5 mm of the VIN bump.
