What this controller does
The LM3424MH/NOPB is a DC-DC controller from Texas Instruments designed for driving high-brightness LEDs. It operates as a constant-current controller supporting buck, boost, SEPIC, and flyback topologies, giving the board designer flexibility to match the LED string voltage and input rail. No internal power switch is included — an external MOSFET is required, which lets you scale the output current to the application's needs. Dimming is handled through either an analog control voltage or a PWM signal, covering both smooth brightness adjustment and high-frequency on-off modulation for accurate color or intensity control. Switching frequency goes up to 2 MHz, which helps shrink the inductor and capacitor sizes on the BOM. The input supply range spans 4.5 V to 75 V.
Surface-mount assembly is standard; the pad footprint should follow the datasheet recommended land pattern for adequate heat sinking.
