Buck LED driver for automotive and general lighting
The LM3404MA/NOPB is a constant-current step-down (buck) LED driver from Texas Instruments, designed to drive a single string of LEDs at up to 1 A with integrated switch. Its 1 MHz switching frequency lets the designer use a small inductor, which helps keep the total solution footprint tight for space-constrained lamp modules or daytime-running-light boards. The input range of 6 V to 42 V covers the typical automotive battery rail through cold-crank and load-dump transients without requiring an external pre-regulator.
Temperature range and lighting-grade qualification
Rated for a junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, this part fits under-hood lighting, exterior signal lamps, and industrial LED luminaires that see high ambient temperatures. The part carries ROHS3 compliance and is listed as active in production, so there is no end-of-life concern for a new BOM line.
PWM dimming and single-output drive
PWM dimming is supported directly, allowing the LED current to be chopped at a user-defined duty cycle for brightness control without shifting the colour temperature. The single output channel delivers a regulated 1 A, which means the LM3404MA/NOPB is a direct fit for a single high-power LED or a small series string, not a multi-channel array driver.
Package and mounting
Supplied in an 8-pin SOIC package (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm) for surface-mount assembly, with the supplier device package also designated as 8-SOIC.
