Dual 600 mA buck in a 16-WSON — what it is
The LM3370SD-4221/NOPB is a dual-output step-down (buck) regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering 600 mA per channel from a 2.7V to 5.5V input rail. The fixed outputs are 1.8V and 3.3V, so there is no feedback divider to populate — the output voltages are set internally. The synchronous rectifier (internal FETs for both high-side and low-side) eliminates the external Schottky diode and keeps efficiency up at light load.
Input range from 2.7V to 5.5V covers single-cell Li-ion, 3.3V or 5V rails. The fixed 1.8V and 3.3V outputs are common for powering the core and I/O of an MCU, FPGA, or wireless SoC from one regulator — no external resistor divider means two fewer components and one less tolerance stack to manage. Operating temperature is -30°C to 85°C, which suits most industrial and commercial enclosures but does not reach the -40°C low end or 105°C/125°C high end that automotive or under-hood designs require. If the board lives in a heated cabinet or outdoor telecom box, this range is fine; if it sits near an engine or in a cold-soak environment, look for an extended-temp variant.
16-WSON package — rework notes
The 16-WFDFN exposed pad (WSON) package, supplier device package 16-WSON (5x4), has a thermal pad underneath that must be soldered to the PCB ground plane for heat sinking. The pad is large enough that a standard hot-air station can reflow it, but the narrow 0.5 mm pitch leads demand careful alignment — use a fine tip and good flux.
