Quad op-amp in hermetic ceramic — the 14-CDIP LM324J
Each amplifier delivers a 1 MHz gain-bandwidth product and can source or sink up to 40 mA per channel, with a supply current of just 1.5 mA for the whole package.
At 1 MHz gain-bandwidth, the open-loop gain drops to unity at 1 MHz; for a closed-loop gain of 10, the usable bandwidth is about 100 kHz. That covers audio, low-frequency instrumentation, and control loops, but not video or fast switching. The 1.5 mA total supply current is shared across four amplifiers — roughly 375 µA per channel — making it a reasonable choice for multi-channel designs where power budget matters.
Hermetic CDIP — why the package matters
The 14-CDIP (ceramic dual-in-line) package provides a hermetic seal that resists moisture and outgassing, unlike plastic DIP or SOIC. This makes the LM324J suitable for high-reliability, military, aerospace, and long-life mission equipment where plastic encapsulation is not accepted. Through-hole mounting (0.300" row spacing) requires no special soldering profile — standard wave or hand solder works. The ceramic body is more brittle than plastic, so mechanical shock and board flex should be managed.
The LM324J operates from a single supply of 3 V to 32 V (or dual supplies up to ±16 V), covering common 5 V, 12 V, and 24 V industrial rails.
For dual-sourcing or a plastic-package alternative, the LM324N (same electrical in PDIP) is a common cross-shop candidate, but the LM324J is the only hermetic CDIP variant in the family.
