The LM317AEMP is a classic three-terminal adjustable positive voltage regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering up to 1.5 A output with an input range up to 40 V and an adjustable output from 1.25 V to 37 V. It is the surface-mount SOT-223-4 version of the industry-standard LM317 family — the same reliable adjustable regulator in a package you can hand-solder on site with a fine-tip iron.
1.5 A output and PSRR — what they mean for a swap
At 1.5 A continuous output, this regulator covers the majority of on-board local rails — sensor supplies, small relay coils, logic and analog bias lines — without the bulk of a TO-220. The PSRR of 80 dB at 120 Hz dropping to 65 dB at higher frequencies means it cleans up rectified line ripple well enough that a field-swapped regulator on a noisy input rail still holds the output steady within a few millivolts.
SOT-223-4: hand-solderable, no hot-air station needed
Orientation is obvious from the chamfered edge. A field tech can swap it with tweezers and a fine-tip iron; the tab needs a good solder fillet to the board pad for thermal relief, but no hot-air station is required.
