What the output flexibility means for your interface
The LM311DG4 is a single general-purpose comparator from TI that gives you four output structure options in one package: MOS, open-collector, open-emitter, and TTL. That means you can drive a logic gate input directly, switch a relay coil through an open-collector pull-up, or level-shift between different voltage domains without an extra transistor stage.
Supply rails and temperature — where this part fits
It runs on a single supply from 3.5 V to 30 V, or split rails from ±1.75 V to ±15 V. The 7.5 mA quiescent current is a fixed overhead regardless of output state, so budget that into your rail capacity.
Input offset and bias — the DC accuracy floor
Maximum input offset voltage is 7.5 mV at ±15 V supplies, and maximum input bias current is 0.25 µA under the same condition. For a threshold-detection circuit (over-voltage latch, zero-crossing detector, window comparator) these numbers set the trip-point uncertainty. If you need sub-mV precision, this is not the part — look at an automotive-grade precision comparator instead.
