9 V fixed LDO in a TO-263 DDPAK
The LM2940S-9.0: It comes in a TO-263-3 (DDPAK) surface-mount package with a tab for heat sinking. The 64 dB PSRR at 120 Hz makes it a clean choice for post-switcher rails feeding analog or audio loads.
Dropout and protection — real-world margin
Maximum dropout is 1 V at 1 A, so the input rail needs at least 10 V to maintain regulation at full load. The 15 mA maximum supply current and 10 mA quiescent current are modest for a 1 A LDO, but not ultra-low-power — factor them into standby budgets. Built-in protection covers over-current, over-temperature, reverse polarity, and short circuit — no external clamp diodes or crowbar circuits needed for basic fault tolerance.
The LM2940S-9.0 is listed as obsolete.
