63 dB PSRR — why it matters for the rail
The 63 dB PSRR at 120 Hz means the regulator attenuates full-wave-rectified ripple by a factor of roughly 1400. For a 10 V rail feeding an op-amp or ADC reference, that rejection keeps the ripple off the signal ground.
On-chip protection covers over-current, over-temperature, reverse polarity, and short-circuit conditions — the regulator survives a miswired bench or a load fault without external clamp diodes.
The LM2940S-10 carries a Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND) status. It is not yet discontinued, but Texas Instruments has flagged it for eventual phase-out. New designs should migrate to the recommended successor within the LM2940 family — the exact pin-compatible replacement is the LM2940S-10/NOPB, which shares the same footprint, output voltage, and current rating.
