5V fixed LDO for industrial and automotive auxiliary rails
The LM2937IMP-5.0 is a 5V fixed-output low-dropout regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering up to 400 mA from a single positive supply. The 1 V maximum dropout at 50 mA means the input must stay above 6 V to maintain regulation — a typical headroom for 12 V automotive or 24 V industrial auxiliary rails. The SOT-223-4 package (TO-261-4 compatible) fits standard surface-mount assembly flows, with the tab providing a thermal path to the board.
Dropout is specified as 1 V maximum at 50 mA load. At full 400 mA output, the actual dropout will be higher — the datasheet curve shows the typical rise. For a design targeting 5 V output with a 5.5 V input rail, this part will drop out of regulation; budget at least 6.5 V input for 400 mA loads, or 6 V for lighter loads. The 2 mA quiescent current (20 mA max supply current) is modest for a 400 mA LDO, keeping the thermal footprint manageable in the SOT-223 package.
Protection features reduce external clamp circuitry
Internal over-temperature shutdown, reverse polarity protection, and short-circuit current limiting are built in. For a 24 V industrial input, reverse polarity protection means a miswired battery won't instantly kill the regulator — the output simply won't come up. Short-circuit protection limits the output current during a fault, reducing the need for a series fuse in many low-power control board designs.
This means the manufacturer has announced end-of-life and is accepting final orders within a defined window.
